Disney bets big on next generation web development!
At the 2007 FlashForward Conference in Boston, Disney Online's Andrew Rapo presented Disney's DXD technology. The presentation program states: "Disney’s DXD represents a quantum leap in Web-based development at Disney Online." ... "DXD goes beyond Web 2.0 by enabling a multi-tasking environment where guests can simultaneously watch videos, play games, chat, and customize their virtual spaces."
Andew also presented at the FITC Hollywood 2007 "Rich Media Entertainment Festival" last October 22nd.
Disney has already started receiving awards for its DXD site. Personally, I think the approach Disney has taken will revolutionize the face of the web... but don't take my word for it ;-) If you haven't seen the site, have a look: http://www.disney.com/dxd
How much is that computer?
|
The first personal computer I purchased was a Commodore VIC-20 in the early 80's. The machine had just under 5KB of memory - no, that's not a typo - it had 5K of RAM. Less, once you started the computer and were left with about 3.5K for use. |
For about the same price I paid (back in the day), Everex is now shipping a $198 dollar PC. The Everex Green gPC TC2502 features 512K or memory and an 80GB hard disk. In fact, it also includes a DVD player and CD recorder. How's this possible? Well for starters the machine is running Linux, rather than the more costly Microsoft Windows OS.
